About The Artist

About Al BuschauerI’ve been photographing professionally for over 30 years. Having settled in Barrington back in 1989, I’m probably best known for an easy style and manner with my subjects. People enjoy the experience even when they were reticent prior to their session.

One thing that may well separate me from other photographers is the level of passion and excitement I still feel every time I’m behind the camera. Photographing feels like play rather than work. Making money (while a necessary matter), is secondary to creating amazing images. I often photograph “for the fun of it.” I still invite people I find interesting to come to the studio, or better yet, meet them at their homes or places of business. You can find me photographing nature at the crack of dawn or close to sunset occasionally too.

If peer accolades are important, I’ve won numerous awards regionally, statewide and nationally. I’ve been voted Illinois’ Photographer of the Year by the APPI and earned my Masters and Craftsmanship degrees from the Professional Photographers of America, mostly for my portraits of women. I’ve had work on public display at EPCOT Center in Florida and images chosen for the Photography Hall of Fame.

Watson and AlI’ve enjoyed opportunities on the lecture circuit to share with and encourage other professional photographers throughout the United States to reach their full potential.

I delight in traveling outside the US when a commission calls me to do so. Yes, sometimes I have to pinch myself!

In July of 2002 I became involved with Hands of Hope, an organization that helps poverty stricken women and children with HIV/AIDS in Africa. This led to my first mission trip there in 2006. I returned in 2007 with a group associated with Willowcreek Church. My photos from Africa have hung in several exhibits around the country, creating awareness and hope for a brighter future. In my down time I enjoy learning and playing my Collings guitar. I love to unwind with a ride almost anywhere on my motorcycle. And most mornings my funny and charming pup Watson and I enjoy going for a run before work.
